Exhibition curated for Lens on Life, displaying the works of the Barika Asylum Seeker Camp, in collaborations with Metrography Agency. Sulaymaniyah, 2023

Curator Note:

Six Windows is a photography exhibition about six youths in the Arbat Refugee Camp in Sulaymaniyah Iraq. It is about the stories that these youths want to tell. The concept of a window is present in the sense of limitation they are facing because of their refugee status. the world is theirs to explore as any other person, yet they are bound to look at it through a glass barrier, bound to stay in their camps.

For me the experience was important, because I could connect with Kurds from another part of Kurdistan. To be able to exchange knowledge and spend time with them was an eye widening experience for me. I think a big part of photography is about sharing what we have learned and expressing what we capture. Sharing these perspectives with the students was a true matter of joy as we went on and explored each other’s stories. In this catalog you will find a general look into their stories and feelings, beyond what they have presented in this catalog, these youth have so much more to tell.
